The purpose of this position is to support families who are involved with or at risk of being involved with DFFH Child Protection. This role works to promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s access to the program through the provision of culturally safe and appropriate services and promote the safety, self-determination, and wellbeing of clients.

The role works to prevent and intervene early to a range of issues including homelessness, family violence, court, and police involvement with a view to provide crisis intervention when required and prioritise safety for all concerned, including risk assessment, safety planning and implement risk management strategies.

We aim to provide holistic assessment of clients to negotiate and implement a case plan that is client centered on their goals and aspirations supporting positive change, safety, and self-determination.

We offer a competitive salary, including tax savings with remuneration subject to experience. 

 

About Winda-Mara Aboriginal Corporation

Winda-Mara Aboriginal Corporation (WMAC) is a community-controlled organisation located in South-West Victoria with offices in Heywood and Hamilton. WMAC provides a range of services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families across Heywood, Hamilton, Portland, and surrounding areas over a number of programs: Land Management, Family Services, GP Clinic and Allied Health, Health Promotion and Prevention, Community Wellbeing, Culture and Tourism, Governance and Administration and Kinship Care and Support. 

WMAC employs over 80 people and has a key focus to provide opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to participate and access culturally appropriate services.

 

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of local Aboriginal Culture, values, needs, issues and the ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal community/people
  • Qualifications or extensive experience in Social Work, Community Services or related area
  • Has well-developed knowledge of Aboriginal culture and society, and the issues that specifically impact on Aboriginal communities, including family violence
  • Demonstrated ability to provide quality client services within a case management framework—supporting clients achieve their goals and aspirations; preferably within a family violence and/or Aboriginal context
