ICAFSS provides counselling, information and support to intercountry adoptees and their families in addressing the complexities and unique challenges that intercountry adoption may bring over a lifetime.
The Counsellor/Caseworker provides intercountry adoption-specific therapeutic care and community capacity building for adoptees, adoptive parents and pre-adoptive parents. Therapeutic care includes adoption trauma informed counselling, group work, psychoeducation, mentor/peer work, case management, interagency collaboration and referral. Community capacity building work includes promotion and awareness of ICAFSS, development of intercountry adoption informed resources, education, lived experience networks, mentoring and peer support.
Essential Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification (AQF level 7) in social work, psychology, counselling or related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in providing counselling to those effected by childhood trauma, abuse and neglect.
- Demonstrated experience in providing case management and casework support.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering trauma specific therapeutic interventions with vulnerable people.
- Demonstrated experience of working with children, young people and adults.
- A Working with Children Check is essential and employment is not able to commence without a current clearance.
Desirable Requirements:
- Post graduate (AQF level 9) qualification in social work, psychology, counselling or related discipline.
- Experience in working with cultural diversity.
- Demonstrated understanding of lived experience and support needs of people who have experienced intercountry adoption, including adoptees, adoptive parents and their families.
