Link-Up (NSW) Aboriginal Corporation (Link-Up) assists all eligible Aboriginal people who have been directly affected by past government policies; being separated from their families and culture through forced removal; being fostered, adopted or raised in institutions. Link-Up supports the healing journeys of those removed delivering professional, culturally sensitive and confidential research, reunions and Social, Emotional and Wellbeing services.

We are currently seeking a dedicated, passionate and adaptable Redress Counsellor to join our team.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Redress Counsellor primary function is to provide guidance and support to some of our most vulnerable clients about their experience of sexual abuse in institutional care, provide therapeutic support and assist them in applying to the National Redress Scheme.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clear, accessible information about the NRS.
- Must be able to work 35 hours per week.
- Currently working 3 days in the office and two days at home.
- Guidance and support to people considering applying.
- Accessible and client-focused services for the target group outlined in the Redress Support Services Manual, and considering the needs and experiences of people who experienced institutional child sexual abuse.
- Warm referrals to legal and financial counselling, and other appropriate community services.
- Support, including outreach, to particular cohorts or identified locations to support access to the NRS.
- Assistance to complete the NRS application form, including filling out the application form and organising support documents as needed.
- Assistance to interact with the NRS, and acting as a nominee where appropriate and agreed with the client.
- Individual or group counselling and social worker support throughout the NRS process, and provided in face-to-face, telephone, video and online settings.
- Transitional support to clients to assist access Counselling and Psychological Care.
- Support relating to the Direct Personal Response process.
- Effectively and autonomously managing a case load of clients.
- Promoting the Redress Scheme and Link-Up (NSW) services to and building relationships with the community and local service providers.
- Co-ordinating cross-agency responses to the needs of survivors of institutional child sexual assault including advocacy and crisis support.
- Maintain Client confidentiality
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Aboriginality is a genuine requirement and is authorised by Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- Diploma or Degree in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work.
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of people from different cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to travel regularly within NSW and interstate as required.
- Knowledge of the National Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse Act 2018 would be considered highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of trauma informed practices including knowledge of the impact and effects of institutional childhood sexual abuse.
- Demonstrated experience in working with individuals where complex trauma has been experienced.
