The Courage Project provides a trauma informed mental health service for children under 14 years old who have and/or are experiencing physical and/or sexual abuse and at risk of self-harm in the Mackay, Whitsunday and Isaac area.
Full-time or part-time roles available with flexible working arrangements.
A day in this role may include:
- Providing professional counselling to children, young people and their non-offending family members.
- Conducting assessments with clients at the beginning and completion of therapy.
- Maintaining accurate and timely recordings of sessions through case notes.
- Travelling throughout the Mackay, Whitsunday & Isaac Region each fortnight to deliver an outreach program.
- Compiling concise and professional reports when required, both internally and to external bodies.
- Attending regular supervision and counselling meetings.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A qualification in psychology, counselling, allied health or social work
- Professional registration or membership with AHPRA, ACA or AASW (or eligibility to obtain) – 4+2 psychology students would be considered
- Experience in trauma counselling, both in individual counselling and family support
- Sound understanding of the effects of child sexual abuse on individual, family, interpersonal and societal levels
- Demonstrated understanding of child protection legislation relevant to service delivery
- As a child-safe organisation, candidates must have a Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and National Police Certificate before commencing with Bravehearts
