THE ROLE
In conjunction with Warrnambool City Council, the Aboriginal Maternal and Child Health Cultural Support role provides cultural support to women and their babies and children up to age 4. The role supports client visits at Gunditjmara Primary Health Services and Warrnambool Maternal and Child Health Service (Early years). Additionally, the position also provides a home visiting service to clients.
The Aboriginal Maternal and Child Health Cultural Support role in partnership with Warrnambool City Council’s Maternal and Child Health Service (Early years) and Koori Maternity Services (Gunditjmara), focuses on improving outcomes, cultural connections, and linkages for Aboriginal families to mainstream service providers.
THE IDEAL PERSON FOR THIS ROLE
Essential
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
- Experience working with Aboriginal youth, providing practical and culturally safe advice and encouragement.
- Sound knowledge of Cultural Safety in practice and a willingness to learn.
- Understanding and commitment to Aboriginal health, Aboriginal culture, and the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control.
- Develop case management skills, including assessment skills and developing and implementing action plans.
- Demonstrated experience working with newborn babies and families, providing flexible and culturally appropriate care for families and children with complex needs.
- Well-developed understanding of early child development.
- Sound organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively network and collaborate with a wide range of Government and non-Government agencies.
- Sound knowledge of a range of community services, education, health, and housing services available.
- Excellent written, analytical, and verbal communication skills.
- Sound administration, file management and computer skills.
- Possession of a current valid Victorian driver’s licence.
Desirable
- Relevant qualification.
- Experience in working in a not-for-profit organisation, or health setting.
