The Role

Job Title: Counsellor – Part Time 

Level: SCHADS 4, $77,577.76 – $83,486.00 (pro rata) depending on experience. Contract until end of June 2023 with the possibility of extension. 

This role is part-time of 4 days per week.

This position aims to help individuals in the Western Australian community build their own capacity to understand and self-manage issues regarding separation and bereavement that impact on their emotional and mental wellbeing. 

Based at our head office in Subiaco you will deliver counselling services across our programs as required, including the Separated Parents and Grief & Loss counselling programs. You will be involved for the intake, screening and assessment of clients and you will be responsible for the management of your caseload, whilst ensuring individual goals and expectations of clients are met. 

As part of the counselling team, you will apply a client-centered approach and implement both brief and therapeutic interventions as necessary. This position will work under the guidance and direction of the Clinical Lead.

Specific Job Skills:

  • Well-developed interpersonal, written and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with families undergoing separation and/or experiencing bereavement
  • Presentation and group facilitation skills
  • Able to make use of clinical supervision
  • Able to work autonomously and prioritise tasks appropriately
  • Able to abide by Lifeline WA’s values, Code of Conduct and policies and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ongoing full accreditation under a national counselling registration board. Acceptable accrediting bodies include, but are not limited to Australian Counselling Association, AHPRA, or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (Clinical Member) 
  • Minimum 2 years counselling experience.
  • Tertiary qualification in counselling or similar.
  • Experience in counselling for separation, bereavement with adults, young people and children.
  • Knowledge and experience in providing culturally appropriate care.
  • A sound understanding of the principles, language and actions required to deliver an inclusive service in the Western Australian community.
  • Experience in trauma-informed practice and a client-centered, collaborative approach.
  • Knowledge of health and community service systems/programs

Computer Skills:

  • Familiarity with Nightingale or similar client management software.
  • Competent and experienced with Microsoft Office.
