What is headspace – Be You Program

headspace in collaboration with Beyond Blue deliver “Be You” the national mental health in education initiative. Be You supports educators from early learning services and schools to develop a positive, inclusive and resilient learning community where every child, young person, educator and family can achieve their best possible mental health.

The initiative has a multidisciplinary team (Clinicians, educators and other professionals) who support school communities nationally.

About the role

This exciting and diverse position will

  • Support the implementation of ‘Be You’ in schools
  • Build school leaders and educators mental health understanding and capacity
  • Partner with schools to plan for, respond to and recover from a death by suicide in the school community
  • This is a contract position offered until June 2023 with a salary range of $70,000 – $90,000. Renumeration is based on skills and experience.

Who we’re looking for?

headspace Be You is seeking an individual with tertiary qualifications in a relevant allied health discipline including psychology (clinical, counselling, educational, community and 4+2 or 5+1 pathways), mental health nursing, occupational therapy, social work, or counselling.

The Be You Consultant will be an individual who is;

  • Engaging and motivated who has demonstrated experience supporting individuals or communities in recovery/wellbeing post a critical incident or trauma
  • Comprehensively knowledgeable of school environments
  • A strong communicator and has excellent stakeholder engagement skills
  • An experienced adult learning facilitator
  • Available to travel within Victoria and Tasmania and has a full license and vehicle.

To be eligible for this position you must

  • Have the right to live and work in Australia
  • Have a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) or equivalent, and/or pass all of the WWCC(s) required for this role (please note that for some roles, headspace requires WWCCs for other State/Territories in addition to your Home State)
  • Satisfactorily undergo a headspace Police Check
  • Have proof and be up to date with your Covid-19 vaccinations in accordance with the headspace COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination Policy and any Government directives

Key Selection Questions:

  • What is your experience in working with young people with mental health issues, including assessing risk? What is your understanding of how mental health issues impact on young people and their learning?
  • What are some key characteristics in engaging schools in a mental health program, such as Be You? Drawing on your experience and/or observation, describe some of the challenges and opportunities you might face.
  • What are the effects on a school if they have been impacted by a suicide and what actions might a school take to support people who are at risk?
