About the Opportunity
The Family Empowerment Program (FEP), is funded through DCJ as part of the Targeted Early Intervention (TEI) initiative, to support local families who are experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, vulnerability.
The FEP is able to offer a range of flexible, client centred services that meet the needs of local families including: Individual, family and couple counselling; short term intake & assessment and casaework suport to existing clients.
The FEP works with children 0-5, children 6-18, younger parents, single parents and CALD communities.
As a member of the Greenacre Area Community Centre staff team, the role of the Counsellor is to:
Provide counselling to suport local chidlren, adolescents, parents/caregivers and families living in the Canterbury/Bankstown LGA to improve family functioning and wellbeing by reducing vulnerability, increasing the capacity of parents and promoting healthy child development.
About You
You are an experienced, committed and enthusiastic professional who can work across the specified target group. You are collaborative with a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills and can relate well to CALD communities and vulnerable and disadvantaged clients. You have the ability to create, maintain and support external partnerships to help strengthen referral pathways with a range of community organisations, Government services and local schools.

Selection Criteria
- Essential
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology.
- Demonstrated counselling experience and ability to support clients through short term casework
- High level written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to network and develop quality relationships with a range of community organisations, Government services and local schools.
- Ability to relate well to people from CALD backgrounds
- Proven ability working in a team environment and independently
- Strong computer skills in a Windows environment
- Knowledge of current legislation related to child protection issues
- Current NSW Driver’s Licence and access to a fully insured vehicle
- Desirable
- Knowledge of current Work Health and Safety legislation.
