JOB DESCRIPTION

Status: Permanent 4-5 days per week – Year Round

Line Management:  The School Psychologist is directly responsible to the lead Psychologist and then to the Principal. They work closely with the Heads of each Sub School and the Deputy Principal (Wellbeing)

 Duties

This position will provide counselling, assessment and group work services to students from Preschool to Year 12.  The position will also support staff and families, and work with external agencies to support the needs of our students. The position will be based across both our Forde and Valley campuses. The school psychologist will support the mission, values and Christian ethos of the school

 

  Responsibilities

  • Provide counselling and guidance to students across the school, who may be self-referred, teacher-referred or parent-referred, with the aim of enhancing the student’s personal, social and educational development.
  • Undertake regular educational and cognitive assessments for students from Preschool to Year 12.
  • Facilitate regular group programs with students and parents across the school (e.g. Cool Kids, Tuning into Teens, social skills)
  • Working with a (small) team of school psychologists, engaging in peer support and consultation
  • Attending student support meetings, case conferences and team meetings
  • Act as a resource person to staff and parents who may seek advice on a student or related issue, and provide referral as needed
  • Liaise with staff on behalf of student pastoral needs
  • Provide workshops to students, staff and parents on psychological, well-being and related topics
  • Advise on and/or provide professional development to staff to meet immediate needs and perceived trends in relation to student welfare issues
  • Regularly review mandatory reporting requirements. Commit to ongoing peer review and support
  • Provide regular data for program and service reviews

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Full registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA
  • Prior experience working in a mental health, clinical and counselling role
  • Experience managing the legal, ethical and organisational requirements of a psychologist role within an educational setting (e.g. privacy, confidentiality and disclosure)
  • Prior experience working in education settings (especially schools) is highly desirable

  • Ability to balance the needs of confidentiality with the need to keep the relevant people informed
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands
  • Ability to communicate effectively to individuals, groups, parents and staff
  • Maintain up to date, accurate and complete written records

Variable Duties/Hours

The nature of the position is such that the psychologist may be required to work outside of ‘normal’ hours. These duties may be varied as determined by the Head of Operations.

 

Salary, Terms and Conditions

The successful applicant will be employed under the Independent School ACT (Support and Operational Staff) Multi Enterprise Agreement 2021. Salary will be determined according to qualifications and experience.
