About the role

Early intervention is key in reducing the impact of mental health problems and mental illness, our schools play an important role in early detection and provision of support. These roles come from supporting the Queensland Government’s commitment to providing wellbeing and mental health care to students, in response to a rise in complex mental health concerns for children and young people. The purpose is to give children and students access to professionals who can provide strategies to improve participation in learning and fostering healthy wellbeing practices so our students are engaged in all stages of their education journey.

As a social worker you will ensure the successful delivery of evidence-based contemporary services that meet the requirements of our student wellbeing package.

The social worker will:

  • Operate in an advisory and advocacy capacity providing services specific to the social work discipline.
  • Respond to the needs of the student population and school community to provide personal and family counselling, therapy and group work, facilitation of referrals to other allied health professionals, and service and care coordination for the purpose of assisting student’s wellbeing and mental health. 

Mandatory requirements

  • Possession of tertiary qualifications in Social Work and eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services

This is a PO2 progression position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the PO2 classification with eligibility for progression to the PO3 once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of PO2 to PO3 classification range.
