About This Opportunity
Research Coordination:
We are seeking a Coordinator, Clinical Research/Genetic Counsellor to provide clinical research coordination and implementation of research projects led by the Integrating Genomics into Medicine Group. Reporting to Dr Tatiane Yanes, this position will support a MRFF Funded study, which aims to develop and evaluate a culturally sensitive framework to recruit individuals of South Asian ancestry in genomics research.
This position is responsible for assisting with research related activities such as project setup and administration, centralised ethics and governance coordination, participant recruitment and follow-up, data collection (focus groups and interviews), database usage/support, and project progress reporting to Chief Investigators. The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing genetic counselling in relation to consent for genomics research and will be a key point of contact for research participants. They will participate in multi-disciplinary research activities with research participants, and with internal and external collaborators, particularly with researchers and clinicians from the University of Queensland, Queensland Health, and general practitioners.
This position is physically based at the Translational Research Institute.
Research Administration:
- Develop, coordinate, and maintain all regulatory submissions for clinical projects according to good clinical practice (GCP) guidelines, relevant national and international ethics regulations, and research governance requirements across multiple clinical project sites.
- Establish collaborations with key stakeholders and participate in regular meetings to ensure effective and timely delivery of the study outcomes.
- In collaboration with research teams, promote and implement participant recruitment and engagement activities, and maintain systematic participant information record keeping.
- Liaise with Clinical Administration Officer and Faculty central functional units to organ
- Provide data for reporting on research outcomes, including preparation of abstracts, posters, oral presentations and publications.
- Monitor and report on any issues related to implementation of the research program, ethical considerations, progress of data collection, compliance of research participants and/or families, implications for changes in best clinical practice (where appropriate to discipline), and any constraints arising within the research projects.
Project Support
- Engage with the Queensland South Asian community and conduct focus groups and interviews with individuals regarding the community’s thoughts and experiences participating in genomics research.
- Under supervision of the of the Chief Investigators, support analysis of qualitative data and the development of a culturally appropriate recruitment framework for genomics research for individuals of South Asian ancestry.
- Provide genetic counselling in relation to participating in genomics research and impact of receiving research genetic testing results.
- Support management of research project documents, prepare manuscript, develop study recruitment framework and disseminate findings to high impact journals.
- Monitor and drive timely completion of research project milestones.
- Attend all relevant internal and external meetings and prepare material for submission to publications and presentations at seminars and conferences.
- Support preparation and disseminate reports to the project team and other reports required to meet external funding requirements.
- Any other duties as reasonably directed by role supervisor.

About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Appropriate qualification and experience as a genetic counsellor (MSc in Genetic Counselling and eligibility for FHGSA certification).
- Knowledge and experience of cultural issues related to South Asian community.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including communicating with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Being able to work collaboratively and flexibly as well as autonomously, in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders.
- Strong focus on quality of work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Highly desirable: knowledge and experience of working in clinical genetics clinics and consenting for genomic testing.
- Highly desirable, experience conducting mixed-method research including qualitative studies.
- Highly desirable, demonstrated ability to initiate, execute, complete, and publish research studies.
- Highly desirable, knowledge of issues related to implementation of polygenic risk scores.
What We Can Offer
This is a full-time (100%) fixed-term position through to 1st June 2024 at the HEW 6 Level
The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $82,399 – $88,503 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $96,407 – $103,549 per annum.
