SENIOR LECTURER – COUNSELLING
SCHOOL OF ARTS AND HUMANITIES 
JOONDALUP CAMPUS
SALARY RANGE: $128,880 – $148,089 (LEVEL C) 
FULL-TIME, ONGOING – ideally commencing early 2023.

Overview of the position and school
The School of Arts and Humanities seeks to appoint a skilled and experienced counselling academic to lead the on-going development of our well-established Counselling and Psychotherapy program.

We invite applications to this position from individuals who have clinical experience, strengths in leadership and academic innovation, and a passion for the education of the next generation of counsellors at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Research skills are desirable but not essential.

The role of Senior Lecturer – Counselling
The role will have responsibility for leading a team of academics in the teaching and research program in Counselling (including Psychotherapy), working closely with the Associate Dean (Psychology and Social Sciences). You will be both a teacher and a leader of teaching; depending on your strengths, you can combine this teaching and leadership work with research, and/or clinical practice, and can develop your career as a senior academic over the years to come. 

There are four key selection criteria for this role. To be successful in your application, you will need to be:

  • An effective educator in in the fields of counselling and/or psychotherapy;
  • A people-centred leader able to sustain a successful team of academics in counselling;
  • A builder of partnerships with organisations inside and outside the university; and
  • An innovator in the application of your skills and knowledge within higher education.

You will also need to have:

  • Clinical experience in a counselling and/or psychotherapy role working with individuals and/or couples and families;
  • A PhD or Master’s by research degree or equivalent qualifications and experience;
  • Eligibility for membership of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and/or the Australian Counselling Association (ACA); and
  • A valid Working with Children Check (WWC) prior to commencement.

Benefits and remuneration

This full-time, ongoing position attracts a remuneration of $128,880 – $148,089 pa (Level C) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
