Multicultural Australia is a leading Queensland multicultural organisation, providing settlement services for migrants, refugees and people seeking asylum. We aim to grow multicultural values across our State and to empower newly arrived Queenslanders from diverse cultural and language backgrounds through advocacy, community development and a range of client services.

About the role:

Multicultural Australia is currently offering an opportunity for a ParentsNext Officer to work as part of our ParentsNext Woorabinda team. The role is fixed term, part-time, 2 days a week for 6 months with a potential for extension.

Do you live in Woorabinda and have a passion for working with parents of young children to help them reach their goals? Do you have the skills to develop and run some group activities for people in your community? The ParentsNext Officer will help parents make plans for their future, link them with skills building activities and run workshops where parents can come together and build their confidence.

The Parents Next Officer works to provide on the ground support to clients to improve their capabilities in key areas including education, training and employment. A Parents Next Officer works with a diverse group of clients and must be understanding and accommodating to all cultural differences within the community. Among other duties, the successful candidate will: 

 

  • Support a diverse group of ParentsNext clients to understand their experiences, interests and aspirations.
  • Create individual development plans that identify specific activities, milestones and support needed to build the individual’s capacity to move into education, training or employment. 
  • Actively promote inclusive and meaningful activities for clients with multiple barriers to employment to effectively create opportunities to maximise social inclusion.
  • Identify specific education, training and employment opportunities that align to individual aspirations and interests. 
  • Ensure work is conducted in accordance with policies and procedures to ensure client privacy, business confidentiality and records are maintained appropriately. 
  • Actively promote inclusive and meaningful activities for clients with multiple barriers to employment to effectively create opportunities to maximise social inclusion. 

What qualifications and skills do I need?

You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and have effective communication and interpersonal skills. As well as having a confident and positive personality, you will possess:

  1. Demonstrated experience and a strong understanding of the challenge’s parents face in participating in education, training or employment and the ability to assist clients to achieve outcomes in these areas. 
  2. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work supportively and collaboratively within a small team. 
  3. Outstanding cross-cultural communication skills and demonstrated capacity to work with a diverse participant base including people from a culturally and Linguistically Diverse or Indigenous background.
  4. Experience in a similar role in the not-for-profit sector will be highly regarded;
  5. Experience is in developing, delivering and facilitating individual and group training sessions for participants.

 

Successful candidate will be required to have a valid driver’s licence, police check and apply for a Working with Children Blue Card. It is a condition of employment with Multicultural Australia to fulfil all our current and future COVID-19 vaccination requirements.
