About the role
As the Therapeutic Specialist, you will provide clinical expertise across the Intensive Therapeutic Care for Children and Young People with Significant Disability (ITC-SD) service system.

Key responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility for facilitating Care Team Meetings and coordinating the formulation and progression of the therapeutic aspects of Case Plans
  • Mentoring and supporting the Care Team and facilitating reflective practice
  • Collaborating with the funding body to determine client mix
  • Developing, implementing, and training/supporting service delivery staff in behaviour support plans, including mandatory quarterly reviews of each child / young person’s behaviour support plan

To be at the forefront of this opportunity you will have:

  • Working knowledge of service pathways, networks, and initiatives
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices relevant to delivering quality services within a Disability organisation
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of legislation including the Disability Discrimination Act, the NDIS Act, the Child Protection Act, and relevant legislation relating to safety
  • Knowledge and understanding of the 10 essential elements of Intensive Therapeutic Care and understanding of trauma, attachments, and child development theory
  • A thorough understanding of restricted practices including phase-out strategies and reporting requirements 
  • Understanding of the impact that trauma, abuse, and neglect may have on children and young people who have a significant disability
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal communities, families, and children specifically in relation to the placement of Aboriginal children and young people in OOHC
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake child-focused behavioural assessments for Children and Young People
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and training/supporting service delivery staff in behaviour support plans, including mandatory quarterly reviews of each child / young person’s behaviour support plan. 

Essential requirements of the role:

  • A tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursing, Health, Allied Health, Social Services, or a related discipline (candidates that also hold a relevant Postgraduate Qualification will be highly regarded)
  • Current registration with the professional body relevant to your qualification
  • Current NSW Driver’s licence 
  • Obtain and maintain a current paid Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Obtain and maintain a valid National Disability Insurance Scheme Workers Check (NDISWC)
  • Appropriate Covid-19 vaccination status
