Established in 1994, Youth Focus delivers innovative and accessible mental health services and programs across Western Australia to help at-risk young people aged 12 to 25.
A key component of this, is our role as the lead agency for a number of headspace centres, including the dynamic and successful headspace Albany located on Minang Noongar Boodja, where this role will call home. This role will deliver Youth Focus services both in schools and at the headspace Albany Centre.

- Fixed-term contract until June 2024 (in line with funding contract)
About the Role
The Access Clinician position will contribute to developing, coordinating, and providing high quality, early intervention intake response for young people, their families and community services. Further responsibilities include:
- Work under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Lead to provide youth friendly mental health services within the headspace Albany centre
- Provide a service to young people, family and friends, community members and professionals seeking services at headspace Albany, including receiving and processing telephone and faxed referrals
- Conduct assessments with young people and their families and friends using agreed headspace Albany tools to determine services required by the young person
- Deliver evidence-based brief interventions, including group interventions, psychoeducation, and skills training, with young people and their families
- Provide youth mental health support to consortium partners and co-located service
- Develop and implement case formulations and care plans in collaboration with young people, headspace Albany Clinicians and other services where involved
- Provide care co-ordination to ensure young people experience smooth seamless transitions between appropriate services
- Participate in regular clinical case review meetings and multi-disciplinary team meetings to ensure appropriate clinical service pathway and service delivery
- Participate in regular clinical supervision including observed and co-facilitated sessions with young people and their families
- Liaise with relevant referrers and other services to promote a consistent and coordinated service delivery response for young people and their families
- Participate in clinical research and evaluation as required
About You
To be considered for this position, applicants will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing or equivalent.
- Membership or eligibility for membership of an appropriate professional body
- Demonstrable experience delivering mental health support, services or programs to young people, their families and carers
- Experience in engaging with young people from ?at risk? populations including LGBTQIA+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, CaLD communities, young men and young people who are homeless/ at risk of homelessness
- Passion for working with young people
- Demonstrated experience and ability to engage, work with and coordinate care for young people aged 12 to 25 years in areas of mental health and intervention
- Demonstrated experience and ability to undertake screening and assessment to determine young person’s needs, level of risk and to refer to other services as appropriate
- Ability to problem solve and work creatively with young people
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, government policies and strategic directions in relation to mental health and alcohol and other drug disorders, particularly as it relates to young people
- Commitment to supporting clinical research and evaluation within the service
- Be available to work outside of ordinary business hours, including a late shift until 8.00pm (Tuesday or Wednesday)
