About the Role
We are looking for dynamic, collaborative and passionate Student Welfare Support Officer’s (SWSO) at our Abermain, Charlestown, Cooks Hill and Raymond Terrace campuses to support and assist the Student Welfare Officer’s in aiding the students of Alesco Senior College to manage their life/school balance and continue their education. The SWSO is focused on student wellbeing and creating a source of support for students so that they may form meaningful and engaging relationships with the school and other staff. The role of the SWSO at Alesco Senior College is to work closely with the Student Welfare Officer (SWO) and Student Learning Support Officer (SLSO) to drive the philosophy of the school.

The Student Welfare Support Officer is responsible for providing a range of operational activities, specifically:
- Assist the SWO’s on the purpose, benefits and expectations within student welfare in order to promote high expectations and positive outcomes for all
- Design, develop and deliver non curriculum programs focused on life skill development or increased wellbeing.
- Support the successful implementation of welfare and community programs throughout all Alesco Senior Colleges
- Provide relief as required for Student Welfare Officers at all campuses
- Participate in pastoral care case management to their individual campus.
- Ensure consistent implementation of targeted documented support approaches to increase learning support for individual students specific learning needs
- Be available to support welfare and support staff in regarding the full range of practical services or program delivery solutions which may assist in dealing with student issues.
- Understand and comply with legislation and standards in accordance with program policy.
- Participate in school planning activities as required eg fundraising, community programs etc
- Maintain extensive knowledge of the full range of community and welfare service or program delivery activities pertaining to young people’s participation in school and community and collaborates and networks effectively with allied services i.e. Youth Interagency Meetings.
- Deal with correspondence or enquiries from other community or welfare agencies.
About You
- You already live by the values of Inclusion, Integrity and Innovation.
- Minimum 2 years’ Experience in individualised or group support and case management with young people.
- Mental Health First Aid Certificate and or training.
- Minimum Certificate IV qualifications in Human Sciences, Welfare, Youth Work, Social Sciences or Social Work. Diploma or Degree in a relevant field is highly desirable
- Effective high-level communication, interpersonal, advocacy and conflict resolution skills
- A demonstrated interest in student wellbeing with experience working with disadvantage and at-risk young people.
- Knowledge of behaviour, psychological and wellbeing theories, and practices relevant to young people.
- Proven innovative and imaginative problem-solving skills
- Excellent collaboration and organisational skills
- Knowledge of secondary schooling sector and adherence to all required current legislative instruments and guidelines including child protection and safety.
- Experience in an alternative or independent education setting is desirable.
