Ngwala Willumbong Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation that is dedicated to delivering quality specialist Alcohol and Drug Treatment, Housing and Homeless and other services to meet the needs of Aboriginal people and their families. These services operate in greater metropolitan Melbourne and Mooroopna in rural Victoria
The job
The Residential Support Worker provides a safe and culturally appropriate environment for clients and support a range of program activities to help clients overcome their substance abuse.
The position works alongside a team with clients during their stay at Yitjawudik, the men’s residential rehabilitation centre, located in regional Toolamba, Victoria. A typical day may include the running of program activities, supporting clients with daily chores, transportation of clients to appointments, advocacy and completing administrative requirements associated with case management of clients and daily reporting as the women work towards their goals of rehabilitation.
We are looking to recruit for the following positions:
1x Night Shift Worker – Monday – Friday
1x Day Shift Worker – Saturday & Sunday
1x Night Shift Worker – Saturday & Sunday
About you
- Certificate IV in Alcohol & Other drugs, or willingness to complete
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal history and/or culture and commitment to the Aboriginal community
- A demonstrated understanding of the issues associated with AOD and their effects on the Aboriginal community
- Good organization and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi skilled team
- Skills in working independently, generally within defined guidelines, and as a team member
- Able to develop positive relationships with clients and work within a stressful environment
- Well-developed interpersonal communication and self-management skills
