Your New Role

The Senior Behaviour Support Practitioner – Restrictive Practices is responsible for providing expert restrictive practices advice and assistance across all levels of the organisation in relation to organisational compliance, certification and accreditation, prioritising customer safety including identification and management risk and managing improvement projects to improve customer safety and reduce or eliminate restrictive practices. You will work to ensure compliance and best practice in the delivery of quality health care for customers. You will also act as Cara’s Authorised Program Officer (APO) for the Department of Human Services (DHS) Restrictive Practices Authorisation Scheme.

As a Senior Behaviour Support Practitioner, you are responsible in providing timely and accurate advice regarding restrictive practices types, authorisation processes and reporting requirements and liaise with the Senior Authorising Officer of DHS for authorisation of Restrictive Practices. As part of this role, you will continuously build service knowledge and practice improvement in collaboration with Service Managers and Specialist Services.

Skills & Experience

  • Sound understanding of the NDIS Behaviour Support Restrictive Practice rules, Guardianship and Administration Act 1993 and Mental Health Act 2009 and treatment orders
  • Demonstrated skills and capability to use IT systems and software to document customer needs, service provision and communicate effectively with other staff members and stakeholders.
  • Experience in working with people with behaviours of concern and restrictive practices
  • Knowledge of person-centred thinking practice

Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Disability Studies), Psychology or equivalent qualification to enable practice as a Behaviour Support Practitioner and APO
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent
  • Hold APHRA, DEAI or other relevant registration at all times while employed
  • Current DHS Disability Employment Screening / NDIS Worker Check, DCSI Child Related Employment Clearance and/or Working with Children Check (or willing to acquire)
  • Current South Australian Driver’s Licence
  • You have the rights to work in Australia
