  • Based at either Albury or Sale

About the opportunity

Carer Gateway is an Australian Government program providing free services and support to carers who provide unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who is frail due to age or has a disability, medical condition or mental illness.

As a Carer Counsellor, you will provide short-term client-focused counselling and support services to carers. The role will engage clients face to face, over the phone, online and through group work. The Carer Counsellor will also play a key role in networking with other service providers within the region.

About you

To be successful in your application you will meet the person specification in the position description, including having a bachelor level qualification in social work, counselling or a related discipline.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of counselling services to carers
  • Demonstrated knowledge and applied use of therapies relevant to carers, including Rogerian and Cognitive Behavioural therapies
  • Experience in designing and facilitation group work programs
  • An understanding of the issues and challenges experienced by carers
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
