ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Women’s Health and Equality Queensland Inc (WHEQ) is a not-for-profit health and well-being counselling, promotion, information and education service for women and their families, and health professionals throughout Queensland. We have a Centre in Stones Corner which provides a counselling service and a range of groups for women affected by gender-based violence

WHEQ service delivery is guided by a strategic and operational plan.  We work with a diverse range of participants and stakeholders. We acknowledge that not everyone who may seek our services may identify as female. ABOUT THE JOB

This position provides specialist domestic, family, and sexual violence counselling supporting women’s recovery and healing from experiences of gendered violence. Additionally, this role provides brief solution focused counselling, case management and advocacy promoting wellbeing, social connectedness, financial independence and increased personal power. The position supports the development, delivery and evaluation of programs which support WHEQ’s vision that all women have safe and inclusive communities in which they are resourced to live their best lives. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.  You will be accountable for:

Working independently and in collaboration with other staff to:  

• Provide client-centred trauma informed counselling and case management services to WHEQ clients, through face-to-face, telephone and web-based delivery modalities. This will include people who have experienced domestic, family, sexual and other forms of gendered violence.
• Assess clients’ health and wellbeing needs to ensure appropriate counselling and support is provided to clients.
• Conduct risk assessments and undertake safety planning in partnership with participants.
• Provide appropriate referral services to WHEQ clients if another organisation can better meet the client’s needs.
• Ensure currency of knowledge regarding best-practice principles. 
• Adherence to best-practice counselling and health promotion and education frameworks.
• Identify and foster beneficial relationships with appropriate identified partners and groups to enhance, deliver and extend the services WHEQ offer.
• Contribute to the planning, implementation, and revision for continuous quality improvement of WHEQ service delivery projects and programs providing women’s health information, education, and building client capacity and self-resilience.
• Prepare accurate and timely information for external reporting purposes (as relevant to your position). 
• Escalate identified issues and clinical risks through formal organisational channels.

ABOUT YOU 

• A relevant Bachelor or post graduate degree in Counselling\ Social work\ Psychology and registration with the associated professional body. 
• At least 2 years’ experience in your professional discipline supporting vulnerable client groups and women who have experienced gender-based violence. 
• Current Blue Card and COVID-19 vaccination.
• Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the DFV service systems and legislation.
• Understanding and gendered analysis of the effects of domestic, family and sexual violence.
• Experience and demonstrated understanding of issues faced by CALD, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities, and other priority groups within the context of health and family wellbeing. 
• An ability and commitment to creating a positive work environment and organisational culture.

Women’s Health and Equality Queensland is located in Stones Corner. This position may require you to work on some days at varying locations in Brisbane as part of a co-location model.
