About us
We are an award winning organisation established to provide a range of accommodation and support services to people that are facing disadvantage throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria. Our aspiration is to be the leader in providing care, hope and advocacy for those facing disadvantage through our provision of services that effectively meet the needs of people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
About the team
Quin House, located in Fitzroy, provides accommodation, therapeutic groups, case management and counselling for up to 3 months, assisting those that identify as male to reconnect with their family and/or community, and rebuild their life after substance dependency and homelessness. The Reconstructing Life After Dependency (RLAD) program is a six-month abstinence-based program for clients post-Quin House or other similar residential rehabilitation facilities. It is a recovery-based model of case management and counselling. RLAD also provides support to clients wishing to enter Quin House in a brief intervention capacity.
About the role
As the AOD Client Intake and Brief Intervention Worker, you will be supporting adults and families with alcohol and other drugs (AOD) concerns.
You will support client pathways into Quin House and RLAD by coordinating referrals. Working closely with leadership on bed occupancy, you help undertake intake and assessments with potential clients for accommodation and rehabilitation options. In addition, you will be liaising with referral agencies, co-facilitating Quin House information sessions, and providing support work with Quin and RLAD clients.
You will work from evidence based, integrated and client centred approaches to provide tailored support through evidence-based frameworks. Your aim is to support and encourage people to identify their own self efficacy and achieve sustainable change, taking independent control of their recovery journey.
About you
Utilising your past experience in AOD assessment and applying therapeutic frameworks, you have an understanding of various health and other treatment services and can work positively to appropriately manage challenging behaviours.
You understand the importance of interacting and mediating in ways that respect the equality, diversity, choices, rights, safety and responsibilities of individuals throughout the process whilst also maintaining strong professional boundaries.
You have experience in maintaining constructive, empathetic, supportive and respectful working relationships – particularly across primary health, mental health, AOD treatment services and other significant community services – for an integrated service response.
Your experience and knowledge also extends to:
- Effectively engaging with people experiencing complex issues;
- An ability to manage critical incidents, identify and act upon immediate risk of danger to self and others in both outreach and service based capacities;
- Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience in liaising with other community service organisations for the development of on-going relationships and referral protocols beneficial to client support.
Why work for us? We offer:
- An opportunity to contribute to an award winning organisation at the cutting edge of LGBTIQ inclusive practice and culturally safety.
- We provide a positive, culturally safe and affirming working environment.
- We are committed to professional development to ensure your career keeps advancing while you’re working with us.
- We offer a place where you know you are contributing to an organisation committed to helping others. We are passionate about #Social Justice.
- We have some great talent who are happy to share their experience and skills to help you on your way.
- Salary packaging, sometimes called salary sacrificing is a huge attraction here! It is a popular way of providing employees in the community sector with tax benefits over and above their salary. It means the real value of a salary package can be significantly higher than the nominal value.
If making a difference is important to you and you meet our essential requirements we can’t wait to hear from you. Please submit your CV together with a detailed and separate response to each of the key selection criteria.
