About Us
Art Tearapy facilitates the discovery of insights and expression by combining the traditional art forms of the East and the evidence based therapeutic knowledge of the West, enabling one to take charge of their own mental, physical and emotional well-being. We provide an innovative service in individual art therapy, family therapy, yoga therapy, monthly creative group workshops, retreats and festivals that specialise in supporting NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) participants in Melbourne.
What we offer
Award based remuneration – you will receive a salary according to the current Health Professionals and Support Services Award, commensurate with experience.
Ongoing Professional development – as a valued part of our team, you will work alongside other health professionals and engage in Peer Supervision sessions, receive their mentoring and ongoing support. We also offer professional supervision with an experienced an external Senior Art Therapist Supervisor.
Flexible and supportive environment – we have the opportunity for flexible working hours, for the right candidate. Estimate of 15-20+ hours a week.
The role
As our new Art Therapist, you will be working within our small boutique team to facilitate the group therapy programs and provide individual therapy for clients. You’ll provide professional services that include assessment, counselling, therapeutic intervention, reporting, consultation and referral as required.
This casual role offers the possibility of flexible working arrangements for the successful candidate.

Full administration support is provided to clinicians including intake, administration and billing.
Duties
- Establish goals and objectives for art therapy sessions in consultation with client or client groups.
- Design art therapy sessions and individual treatment plans to meet a client’s goals or objectives, incorporating art therapy, counselling and psychotherapy techniques.
- Invitations to individuals or groups in the use of arts media, such as paint, clay or other mediums.
- Provide guided self-expression through art to help clients improve / manage their cognitive or emotional difficulties.
- Acknowledge client progress and reflect upon their reactions to the artistic process.
- Write case notes and progress reports related to individual clients or client groups.
- Working flexibly for studio-based sessions (Hawthorn) and outreach around Melbourne Metro.
Requirements
- Tertiary Qualifications in a Creative Discipline and/or Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or Mental Health Nursing.
- Postgraduate qualification – Master of Arts Therapy, recognised by ANZACATA or PACFA
- Professional registration with ANZACATA, PACFA, AHPRA or ACA
- Valid Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle
- Working with Children Check and National Police Check
- Ability to build rapport with clients and their families to make therapy enjoyable and engaging
- Experience of working with mental health and people with disabilities.
- Interest in professional development
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work well with basic technology e.g. Word, Excel, GMail and Google Calendar, online case noting systems
