What You Will Be Doing
The Acute Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit (2 West) is a 29 bed unit based at the Frankston Hospital. 2 West supports people experiencing an acute phase of mental illness or mental health challenges until such time that the person can be treated effectively in a community based mental health setting.
The Carer Peer Worker role has been developed specifically for people with a personal experience of caring for someone with mental health challenges to provide peer support to family members, carers and supporters of consumers on 2 West. Carer Peer Workers are empathetic listeners who promote hope, choice and connection in their relationships with others.
Carer Peer Workers work closely with clinical, allied health and other peer work staff. As key members of the multi-disciplinary treatment team, Carer Peer Workers share their experience and expertise to ensure care is recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and family/carer inclusive.
Carer Peer Workers also develop strong professional relationships with other service providers and community groups. They are able to provide information and referral to relevant community supports so that family members, carers and supporters can develop and maintain connections within their local community.
