We deliver social services that are shaped around individual needs and goals to help create positive futures built on independence and esteem.  We deliver services in Aged Care, Child & Family, Financial Health, Mental Health & NDIS.  We operate two social enterprises, a community child care centre and a psychology practice.  We have been in operation for over 150 years.

The Role

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Community Mental Health Practitioner to work within the Wellness Connect National Psychosocial Support Program (NPSP).  The Community Mental Health Practitioner (CMHP) provides support services to consumers with a severe and persistent mental illness, focusing on practical and day to day aspects of their lives and linkage to additional supports as required. 

Your primary responsibilities will be to:

• Provide a range of non-clinical, psychosocial rehabilitation support to program participants.
• Support consumers to participate in everyday activities to increase their independence and ability to function in the community.
• Assist consumers to identify social, economic, recreational and educational services in the community that meet their needs.

About You

You will be committed to working with people with mental illness in ways which promote recovery. You will be able to work as member of a team and actively participate in reflective practice through team meetings, service planning sessions, supervision and staff development activities.  You will have effective oral and written communication skills and ensure sensitivity to client’s needs and privacy.

Qualifications and Experience

You will have:

• A minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health or equivalent human services or community qualification
• Knowledge of issues impacting on people with mental illness and strategies that are helpful in maintaining mental health and well being
• Knowledge of the rights and responsibilities of mental health consumers
• A broad knowledge of mental health services in South Australia
• Ability to relate well and communicate with people with mental illness, carers and service providers
• Ability to build rapport with a range of people from a variety of backgrounds and belief systems
• Demonstrated experience in engaging people from disadvantaged backgrounds
• A current South Australian Driver’s Licence
• A current DHS Working With Children Check, or ability to obtain at your own cost prior to commencement of employment.
• Under various Emergency Management Directions currently in place in South Australia, all staff, volunteers and students who undertake work at any UCWB site or who undertake in-home and community aged care and disability support work are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Location

This role is based at Bowden just a short walk to the popular Plant 3 and Plant 4 entertainment complex in Gibson Street however off-site work out in the community will be required.
