About the service
The Newcastle Sexual Assault Service (NSAS) is a part of the Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) Services and is a 24hr Crisis Service comprising of a specialist multi-disciplinary team. NSAS is situated at Wallsend Health Campus and the John Hunter Hospital and provides outreach clinics to various other sites within the Greater Newcastle area.
About the role
This role will see you providing advocacy, support, information and referral pathways for victims of sexual assault and their non-offending family members through robust provision of intake, referral and assessment, crisis intervention and counselling.
The successful candidate will be supported by the NSAS Team Leader and senior sexual assault counsellor as well as the dynamic and warmly supportive team. You will be supported to fully engage in ongoing professional development and regular clinical supervision including group team supervision as part of the NSAS team
About You
The successful candidate will be a resilient and committed individual who has knowledge and experience in working in a busy multi-disciplinary team with a background in trauma and its impacts. You will possess a high level of written, verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences. You will have strong time management and organisational skills with the capability to independently problem-solve and apply clinical judgment and professional and ethical boundaries when working with complex clients and situations. Teamwork and working collaboratively is a key capability.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases – this is a Category A position. Please read and understand NSW Health policy directive (PD2022_030). All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in the policy.
To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport.
