We are seeking an experienced senior academic to lead the delivery of high-quality research and teaching within the counselling and psychotherapy programs. In addition to these existing programs, the position will be responsible for overseeing several new programs in Child, Youth and Family Mental Health. The Deputy Dean will lead the counselling and psychotherapy teams – supported by the Dean – and teach, advocate and conduct research in the field of counselling and psychotherapy.

Having recently received Self Accrediting Authority, we are seeking a Deputy Dean to provide overall leadership for the counselling and psychotherapy programs. 

The role: 

This new and key leadership position requires an individual who is well grounded in the teaching and practice of counselling and psychotherapy, experienced in accreditation and academic governance and who has an active research program and an excellent learning and teaching background. The Deputy Dean will also provide thoughtful leadership and mentorship to their academic teams and ensure academic achievement and the delivery of high-quality courses in a collegial and equitable environment.

The person:

We seek an experienced academic leader with an ability to work effectively with others and who has a desire to achieve the best outcomes for students and staff. The ability to foster relationships with industry, government, professionals and community is also key to the success of this position. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • A successful track record in academic leadership in counselling and psychotherapy
  • An ability to develop and implement a successful vision for the counselling and psychotherapy program which aligns with the Institute’s objectives 
  • Expertise in course development and a sound understanding of pedagogy
  • Both practice and teaching family and or child counselling and psychotherapy interventions  
  • Experience in applying and responding to queries from the professional accrediting bodies for Counselling and Psychotherapy (PACFA and ACA)
  • Proven experience in leadership and management of academic staff, including management of staff workloads
  • Established research programs with publications in high impact journals 
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication, influence and negotiation skills including the ability to build trust within the team and the staff community
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders and industry partners and/or government agencies 
  • Efficient and accurate administrative record keeping.
