Racing Hearts is an innovative, multi-disciplinary Equine and Animal Assisted Mental Health practice that provides mental health and social emotional support to members of our community ages from 4yrs+. We have 2 farms, one based on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula and one in the thriving growth area of Pakenham South.
The unique aspect of our equine assisted therapy practice is that we work predominantly with a team of retired racehorses. We also rehabilitate, retrain and rehome retired racehorses post their racing careers. Our farms have a variety of areas for you to work in with your clients including outdoor arena (Balnarring), undercover area, paddocks and stables. One of our counsellors also works with her beautiful St Bernard therapy dog, Dude.

Who we are looking for:
We are looking for an experienced, registered psychologist who has a passion for working with a variety of clients.
A person who
- Is a qualified and registered psychologist
- Is enthusiastic about helping our practice grow
- Is committed to working in a holistic manner with our clients who are varied in challenges
- Has a full drivers license and own transport
- Has a current working with children check
- Is committed to assisting with the continual development of resources including contributing and working on OH&S policies and procedures
- May have an interest in carrying out research on Equine Assisted Therapy
- Has an understanding of the NDIS and avenues clients can access funding for services
- Can offer services to clients on a mental health plan, medicare etc
- Is confident and competent working with horses, preferably particularly retired racehorses
- Preferably has first aid
Your role will include but not be limited to:
- Clients of varied age and presenting challenges
- Completing assessments where appropriate and writing reports
- Comprehensive note/record keeping
- Liaising with therapeutic team of the client, including the family
- Delivering creative evidence based 1:1 therapy
- Delivering after school group programs
- Completion of reports for supporting therapeutic team and funding of client
- Liaising with the Racing Hearts team to provide the best possible service to our clients and horses
- Monitoring horses and their tolerance levels of sessions/clients
- Provide care for horses by means of reporting illness or injury and supporting the horse care personnel where possible
- Assist in keeping the practice areas clean and tidy
- Opportunity to carry out research

This position is suitable for an experienced psychologist, social worker or psychotherapist. You will be involved in fortnightly peer supervision with our team.
