ABOUT THE ROLE
You will be accountable for the facilitation of well-being for a youth student cohort through support at both the individual and group level to improve student outcomes and promote engagement while positively contributing to Chisholm’s key business objectives including completions and retentions.
This position focuses on excellence in the promotion of student well-being and engagement, the support of a high-quality student support service, improved student outcomes and maintaining an effective referral and support network.
The incumbent is a key and active participant of the Senior Secondary & Pathways Programs team and provides expertise to reduce barriers for young adults and support improved learner outcomes for the Senior Secondary & Pathways Programs team.
Your key accountabilities will be to:
- Facilitate activities outside class times that foster engagement and build client relationships across a broad spectrum of the young adult cohort to support student engagement
- Monitor support needs of the overall young adult cohort, communicate changes to key staff and develop a strategic response to barriers affecting student success
- Provide accurate professional advice, underpinned by the most current methodologies, to reduce barriers to success and maximise student engagement
- Support staff, both individually and as a group, in the debriefing of critical incidents to support staff wellbeing
- Provide young adults with effective strategies to counter mental health issues and adopt problem-solving and coping skills to maximise student achievement
- Build relevant internal referral pathways and external relationships including referral agencies to effectively reduce barriers to student success
- Facilitate the implementation of student welfare policies and procedures that underpin student success.
ABOUT YOU
You will have a tertiary qualification relevant to the youth or social work field.
Crucial to your success will be your significant experience in successfully performing a learner support role within a young adult environment; your ability to assist in policy-making to develop and implement strategies to identify and provide solutions to student well-being concerns within the youth cohort; your awareness of social values/issues within the community and to develop appropriate strategies to respond where needed.
You have a professional development plan that demonstrates a practical understanding of the most current strategies available in supporting the well-being and mental health of young adults.
