The Position
St John of God (SJG) Social Outreach provides compassionate care that empowers individuals, families and communities through a range of community based mental health, homelessness and capacity building services across Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Timor-Leste.
We have been appointed by WA Primary Health Alliance to establish and operate a new Head to Health adult mental health centre in Armadale (expected to open October 2023) and two Head to Health services which will be located in Gosnells and Mirrabooka (expected to open July 2023). The Armadale centre will offer free, on-the-spot advice and support and, if needed, assessment and treatment for people with stress, anxiety and other mental health issues. It will be open for extended hours 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Head to Health services are part of a federally funded Australian Government initiative aimed at improving access to mental health services for people whose condition is too complex for primary care, but doesn’t meet the criteria for a hospital Emergency Department (ED) visit.
In readiness for the opening of the new Armadale Head to Health centre, we are now seeking applications from experienced and qualified Art Therapists to join our Armadale team.
Working as an Art Therapist you will work alongside our multi-disciplinary team to provide clinical art therapy to clients/patients using evidence based clinical practice skills. Ensures practice is in accordance to the Australian, New Zealand & Asian Creative Arts Therapy Association (ANZACATA) Standards of Professional Practice and Code of Ethics and SJGHC policies and guidelines.
These positions are being offered with rostered hours available across two shifts, being 08:30 – 16:36 hrs and 13:00 – 21:06 hrs, 7 days a week to suit the extended operating hours of the centre.
The successful candidate will have:
- Ability to work within and contribute to the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
- Relevant Qualifications at post-graduate level or equivalent level in Art Therapy, and eligibility for professional membership to the Australian, New Zealand & Asian Creative Arts Therapy Association (ANZACATA).
- Experience in the successful delivery of individual and group-based art therapy
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work effectively in a team environment.
- Well-developed problem solving and time management skills.
