Credentialed Mental Health Nurse First Step

SETTING 

First Step is a not-for-profit addiction, mental health, and legal services hub in the heart of St Kilda. We provide services to thousands of vulnerable Victorians every year, with the firm belief that everybody deserves every chance to turn their lives around. First Step provides a uniquely multi-disciplinary team of GPs, psychologists, psychiatrists, lawyers, mental health nurses and care coordinators. 

JOB BRIEF 

Funded by the South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network, the Mental Health Integrated Complex Care (MHICC) program provides highly flexible, timely and accessible support to consumers with severe mental illness and complex needs. 

We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Credentialled Mental Nurse to join our team. You will work alongside our multidisciplinary team with a variety of patients – most of whom have co-occurring conditions – providing direct mental health nursing care in an environment of welcome, empathy and hope. 

Key Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team, including GPs and other mental health practitioners, to contribute to the planning and implementation of support and treatment. 
  • Maintaining clinical documentation to a high standard 
  • Active, constructive participation as a member of a team 
  • Respect and consideration for the rights and well-being of co-workers by following policies and procedures. 
  • Demonstrate a high level of self-management 
  • Actively sharing information and ideas with colleagues and support each other to be successful in their relevant positions. 
  • Proficient in the use of medical database systems (for example, Medical Director and Pracsoft) 
  • Ability to use initiative and work under minimal supervision. 

Requirements and skills: 

  • Currently Credentialed Mental Health Nurse with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN) 
  • Current Unrestricted registration with AHPRA 
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Credentialled Mental Health Nurse in a Primary or Community Setting 
  • Compliance with all statutory and professional standards 
  • Experience working with clients with addiction and mental health support needs or similar. 
  • Understanding of, and ability to undertake clinical assessments and develop or inform care plans. 
  • Conducting clinical assessments and review, liaising with other health providers, and providing secondary consultation with other program staff where required 
  • Coordinating the development, implementation and ongoing review of clinical assessment and care planning. 
  • Confident in both written and verbal communication and organisational and time management skills 
  • Ensuring client care is delivered in accordance with relevant Quality Standards and Organisational values, standards, policies, and procedures and to the concept of continuous quality improvement.
  • Current Working with Children Check 
  • Satisfactory Police Record Check 
  • Right to work in Australia 

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Note: You must answer these Key Selection Criteria in your cover letter or in a separate attachment with your application 

  1. Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Credentialled Mental Health Nurse in a Primary or Community Setting 
  2. Experience working with clients with co-occurring addiction and mental health support needs or similar. 
  3. Coordinating the development, implementation and ongoing review of clinical assessment and care planning for people with long histories of mental distress and substance use. 
  4. Desire to work and grow within a multi-disciplinary team, working with colleagues to develop, adjust and implement care plans. 

WHAT WE OFFER 

We are looking for someone permanent part time (approx. 0.4 EFT) with days and hours are flexible subject to negotiation. Conditions are set out under the Nursing Award, subject to skills and experience. Competitive salary packaging applies.
