Hazel Glen College is seeking a Psychologist to join our team.

Hazel Glen College is located in the City of Whittlesea, one of Melbourne’s fastest growing municipalities.  The local population has grown rapidly and continues to grow.  Hazel Glen College has an active and integral role in the ongoing development of the Doreen community hub.

Hazel Glen College comprises a Kindergarten, Junior School P-4, Middle School 5-8, Year 9 Centre and Senior School 10-12.

The College seeks an enthusiastic, innovative and dynamic member of staff. An ability to work effectively within a team environment is essential.  Staff at the College regularly collaborate, with the aim of providing instruction that is differentiated to the point of learning need for all students. 

Selection Criteria

SC1    Demonstrated experience in assessing students using a variety of psychometric tools, including cognitive, ASD and risk assessments, and conceptualising and analysing student learning and wellbeing needs.

SC2    Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing evidence-based intervention strategies for children with a range of mental health issues, including the direct counselling of students, applying sound theoretical knowledge and prctical expertise.

SC3    Highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team within an educational setting, and to work holistically to support staff, students and their families.

SC4 Demonstrated high-level skills in the coordination and completion of short-term psychological counselling services.

SC5    Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures relating to children and schools.

Role

  • Provide professional assessment, counselling, interventions and support services to students within the parameters of school policy and guidelines.
  • Provide professional reports requiring in-depth factual analysis, including assessments and recommendations for consideration by others.
  • Guide decisions on complex intervention strategies that may have significant consequences for students and their families.
  • Provide expert advice to influence the strategic approach to student support and learning.
  • Contribute to the delivery of a professional support service in a school, including the development of policy and operational practices that will guide the work of others, including teachers.

    Responsibilities

  • Based on results of assessments and observations, utilise a team approach to support staff in developing appropriate goals and interventions designed to achieve successful learning outcomes and positive emotional wellbeing for students.
  • Provide psychological support to staff and families/carers in the management of students with an intellectual disability who may exhibit severe behavioural and adjustment difficulties.
  • Provide direct intervention and support to students with an intellectual disability through counselling, modelling and guidance, utilising creative methods and materials to support comprehension.
  • Liaise with other professionals in the management of students and be proactive in identifying referral pathways for families and students to access additional services as required.
     

Who May Apply

Mandatory Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Expectations

A graduate or post-graduate qualification in psychology and full registration as a psychologist with the Australian Psychology Board.

Note that it is a legal requirement for a psychologist to be registered with APHRA and the practice of psychology.
