About the Role:
The Housing Case Worker is responsible for ensuring that collaborative, high quality, client focused case-management services are provided to people who are homeless or in housing need. The role is responsible for providing support, information and practical assistance on a range of issues to people referred by Housing Connect Assessment Workers. All services will be provided within an integrated and collaborative framework with relevant stakeholders and services in the community.
The successful applicant will possess demonstrable competency, knowledge, understanding and/or skills in the following areas:
- Knowledge of multi-disciplinary issues relating to homelessness such as: poverty, unemployment, health, family violence, substance use and other social factors which impact on vulnerable or at risk people.
- Understanding of Tasmania’s current housing market and the difficulties facing low income people trying to secure housing;
- Concepts of social justice, social inclusion and empowerment and their application to practice.
- Demonstrated skills in assisting people who are experiencing disadvantage including reflective practice;
- High level interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively engage with people seeking assistance though Housing Connect and stakeholders including real estate agents and landlords;
- Client feedback and participation strategies, their application to practice and quality improvement processes;
- Comprehensive knowledge of the community services sector and resources available for people;
- High level initiative, problem solving and resilience skills including the ability to maintain a positive outlook, see the ‘bigger picture’, identify opportunities and implement solutions;
- Well-developed writing skills including the ability to maintain accurate, professional case-notes, write reports, collect data, prepare correspondence and provide required information within program guidelines;
- Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to manage own work flows in conjunction with senior Housing Connect staff;
- Computer skills, in particular the ability to operate word processing and database management software packages
- Relevant degree level qualification (social work, psychology) or essentially required accreditation from a recognised institution.

The successful applicant will be required to:
- provide a current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Registration (employment/volunteer category) including NDIS Worker Screening Check if you are applying for the 1st time or have renewed your registration since 1st February 2021;
- present an unsupervised contact with children or vulnerable people type National Police Check (no older than 12 months);
- provide an International Police Check if you have resided for 12 months or more outside of Australia after the age of 16;
- provide a satisfactory Anglicare assessed medical:
- provide evidence of your COVID-19 Digital Certificates (including booster) or a vaccination exemption;
- provide a current provisional or full Australian Driver Licence.
On commencement the successful applicant will be required to undertake our structured Safeguarding Children Training program.
