JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a designated Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act.  Proof of Aboriginality is required.

Pathfinders is currently looking for a permanent Full Time Cultural Support Worker to be based in either Armidale, Inverell, Moree or Tamworth.

The primary purpose of a Cultural Support Worker is organising daily priorities which directly support the day to day work of Caseworkers, as allocated by the direct manager, and contribute to keeping children, young people and families safe by undertaking  tasks which support case planning and documentation, referrals and appointments, case visits  and day to day team priorities. 

The role also requires some discretionary decision making in relation to observing and reporting behaviours of children, young people and families in contact visits and other activities where risk and safety are an issue.

The Cultural Support Worker will require knowledge and understanding of the issues that affect Aboriginal communities, societies and cultures in NSW and be willing to advocate on behalf of Aboriginal young people and their families in providing cultural support and provide services to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children, young people and families. 

The Cultural Support Worker will also be required to build strong relationships with Aboriginal agencies to support and strengthen families and cultural connections

Some Travel will be a requirement.

This position is Level 4.4 under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Modern Award (“the SCHDSI Award”).  Salary is negotiable dependent on qualifications, skills and experience.
