Family Services Parent Support

  • Permanent Part Time Contract
  • 15 hours per week (3 days per week)
  • Work during school terms

The Opportunity

Holdsworth is looking for a dynamic and positive person to develop and expand our range of services, to young families in eastern Sydney. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitating connection between new parents and their child aged between newborn – 12 months
  • Supervising the day-to-day operation of Baby Room;
  • Identifying and responding to the needs of parents with children (newborn – 12 months) through new and existing programs, and in collaboration with partner agencies where appropriate;
  • Providing advice and referral on parenting issues;
  • Promoting and strengthening connection between parents and babies;
  • Supervising staff and volunteers; and
  • Participating in service planning, monitoring and evaluation.

Essential attributes

  • Experience working with children (newborn – 12 months) and families; 
  • A commitment to promoting positive parenting; excellent oral and written communication skills; 
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and individually without supervision; and
  • Ability to listen to parents everyday challenges and where appropriate connecting them to external supports; 
  • Tertiary qualifications in Midwifery, Child Care, Child Health or other relevant discipline; and
  • Positive, motivational and engaging personality!

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated experience providing Accidental Counselling and/or Counselling qualifications;
  • Knowledge of parenting philosophies (i.e. Circles of Support, Louise Porter, Janet Lansbury);
  • Knowledge of the Eastern Suburbs and community networks; and
  • First Aid & CPR
