Where you’ll be working

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), Sutherland Mental Health Service, located on the Sutherland Hospital campus, Caringbah.

CAMHS is a specialist Mental Health service providing comprehensive assessments, advocacy, therapy and other specialist?s services for children, adolescents, young people and their families who are experiencing emotional, behavioural or social difficulties. We have a family multidisciplinary approach aimed to prevent, identify, treat and reduce the impact of these difficulties on children, adolescents and their families. We provide comprehensive acute/non-acute assessments and treatment for children and adolescents experiencing emotional, behavioural difficulties. We provide short to medium term therapy, generally with a family focus. Interventions may be individual, family or group within a recovery based model.

The CAMHS Mental Health Clinician is required to deliver outpatient treatment, providing specialist mental health services and tertiary consultation to children and young people in a community setting inclusive of other service partners engaged with families within a CAMHS setting.

The CAMHS clinician will facilitate, implement and evaluate care management pathways for patients with complex needs to appropriate services and support the service with implementation of service improvement initiatives.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Selection Criteria

  1. Professional qualification in either Social Work (eligible for membership of AASW), Occupational Therapy with current registration with AHPRA. Clinical psychologists require full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA), with endorsement in Clinical Psychology (or eligibility to progress towards same), along with a minimum two-year full-time APAC-accredited postgraduate Masters or Doctorate degree in clinical psychology.
  2. Extensive clinical experience in delivering family-based intervention and therapeutic models by applying early intervention philosophy and principles to infants, children, adolescents (O-18 years) and their families/carers.
  3. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
  4. Ability to provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other staff.
  5. Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.
  6. Advanced skills in conducting acute/non-acute assessments including risk and management.
  7. Demonstrated computer literacy skills.
  8. Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position)
