About the Opportunity
The Adelaide Remand Centre (ARC) is a high security male remand prison located in Adelaide. The ARC provides prisoner intake, assessment, and induction to identify appropriate placement, services and supports for each prisoner at the point of admission.
As a senior member of the Offender Development team, you will ensure appropriate social, emotional, and practical support services are in place for the prisoner population that considers cultural, cognitive and behavioural needs of the individuals.
The Behaviour Support Practitioner will
- Provide guidance and advice on the development and management of case plans that address the mental health, disability, and psychosocial intervention to ensure the safety and security of prisoners.
- Ensure the provision of therapeutic intervention services for prisoners.
- Provide key support for the assessment, referral, and discharge planning for prisoners.
- Be responsible for the provision of specialist, evidence based, clinical support services.
Key areas of focus include a capacity to identify and prioritise vulnerable and at-risk prisoners, identification of and implementation of interventions to address the presenting risks and needs of the individuals, and participation in the planning of their transition and reintegration into the community.
What you’ll be doing
- Refer prisoners to other stakeholders and supports where appropriate and actively develop and maintain relationships with other organisations.
- Engage with best practice research and learning around prisoner behaviour support opportunities for vulnerable detainees, build networks with related organisations and represent at appropriate meetings, events, and conferences.
- Ensure all reports, data collection and record keeping are maintained and updated.
- Contribute to the development, review and updating of documents, policies, and procedures.
- Provide evidence-based advice to Offender Development personnel in the facility, Serco operational teams, health services staff, internal and external stakeholders, and prisoners in managing challenging behaviours.
Be innovative, flexible, and responsive to changing prisoner cohorts, taking into consideration factors such as: age, mobility, demographics, and cultural considerations.
About you – your ideal skills & experience
Qualifications / Requirements
- Degree qualified in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, Social Science, or other related fields.
- Demonstrated experience working with people in the correctional and/or judicial systems.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with an understanding of the National Closing the Gap outcomes.
- Experience in criminogenic risk assessments.
- Experience in assessment and intervention strategies including mental health, self-harm prevention and cognitive impairment.
- A Psychologist will require current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- A Social Worker will require current registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
- Experience in criminogenic risk assessments, including risks related to sex and violent offending.
