Part time, fixed term role maternity leave cover position until June 2024 in the Austin Health Stomal Therapy team
About the Stomal Therapy Service
The Stomal Therapy Service as part of the Colorectal Unit provides care to patients undergoing elective or emergency colo-rectal or urological surgery, with a possibility or definite chance of stoma formation, and will be seen for pre-operative counselling and siting. The team works closely as part of the multiple multidisciplinary team supporting Urology, Colorectal, Gastroenterology and Intestinal transplant units in the inpatient and outpaitent environment.
About the role
The role is the primary contact for patients and staff for education and expert guidance on all things stomal therapy. The service provides 3 clinics per week and reviews elective patients pre-operatively, post operatively, new referrals, self-referrals, and ongoing follow up.
A regular day will see you:
- Providing education and support to patients and their carers
- Attending outpatient clinics
- Working with the multidisciplinary team to provide guidance and expert advice to optimise the patient journey.
About you
The successful candidate will have experience working autonomously and with in small teams to deliver outstanding patient centred care. You will be an effective communicator and have experience in providing patient education to facilitate successful training of patient and carers in managing their stoma and support staff education and development in your area of expertise.
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
- Post Graduate qualification in Stomal Therapy nursing
- 2 years post graduate experience working the stomal therapy feild
- Demonstration of innovative leadership skills and initiatives
- Recent clinical experience in stomal therapy
