Based in Northern Sydney, the Northern Beaches and Western Sydney (Granville) Taldumande supports young people from across Sydney, and has a range of highly successful homelessness, family, and young offender programs.
We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our team in the role of Caseworker – Honour My Choice Program (HMC) and Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) on a contract basis from August 2023 until June 2025. Honour My Choice is an innovative early intervention response that will build on the accommodation program already delivered by Taldumande for children/young people at risk of or experiencing modern slavery/forced marriage. Honour My Choice will continue to provide specialist homelessness services for young victim/survivors and will expand the collaborations with secondary schools and some primary schools across the Sydney and South-West Sydney region. The Honour My Choice program aims to reduce the number of children and young people who are forced into marriage or experiencing other forms of modern slavery. The role involves:
- Delivery of the HMC forced marriage and modern slavery resource kit for professionals as well as children/young people within schools and communities.
- Delivery of a syllabus unit on Modern Slavery, Forced Marriage, and Healthy Relationships for teachers to teach within their curriculum.
- Provision of case management support for children/young people who are accommodated by Taldumande within the HMC program. Including case planning, supporting young people with goals and casework coordination.
- Networking and maintaining/establishing strong community and stakeholder partnerships and relationships.
- Delivery of group presentations in schools and community-based organisations.
- Support children/young people to access accommodation when required.
- Accommodation and casework support provision for children/young people at risk of or experiencing forced marriage.
Essential Requirements:
• Related tertiary qualifications (Social Work, Psychology, or related field).
• Strong understanding of the issues surrounding modern slavery and children/young at risk of or escaping forced marriage, and how to deliver culturally sensitive service responses to children/young people from a culturally and linguistically diverse background.
• Initiative, commitment, and a willingness to strive for continual improvement in providing quality, flexible and ethical services to children/young people and their school communities.
• Excellent communication and networking skills.
• Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
• Own car with comprehensive insurance (role requires travel around Sydney and South-West Sydney Region)
• First Aid Certificate
• Ability to be flexible with weekday working hours from time to time.
• Responsive with the ability to manage sometimes unpredictable events, and to prioritise the level of need and response within Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) client load across crisis, semi-independent and supported transitional clients.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Desirables:
- Minimum 2 years case management experience in community services.
- Experience working in programs for the prevention of modern slavery and forced marriage.
- Experience working in youth based residential/housing services.
- Experience with Brief Solution Focused Therapy/strengths-based practice.
- Fluency in a community language such as Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Farsi, Dari or others.
- Experience working with migrant/refugee/multicultural communities or families.
