Mental Health Support Work (Thirlmere) Aligned Community Care

JOB DESCRIPTION

Aligned Is seeking positive and strong role models/mentors to work flexibly alongside people who have a disability or mental health issue and may be experiencing social isolation. We are looking for vibrant and intuitive Support Workers who believe EVERYONE can participate in and be connected to their community. Responsibilities of a Support Worker:

The key responsibility of a Support Worker is to work directly with individuals supporting them to achieve their goals. 

This may include:

  • Supporting individuals to gain independence in everyday life and learn new skills
  • Connecting individuals with recreational, sporting or community groups
  • Supporting individuals to use public transport
  • To find and keep a job in open employment
  • Collaborating with key people in an individual’s life, including family members, employers or other support services to achieve the best outcomes
  • Role model and advocate for people living with disability in the community
  • Participate in peer support meetings
     

Required Attributes:

  • Minimum Certificate III in Individual care (aged care/ disability), Community Services or similar
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a Disability role
  • Trauma Informed Knowledge/Training
  • Experience in continence care
  • Experience supporting individuals with Mental health
  • Creativity and outside-the-box thinking
  • Ability to adapt your mentoring skills to people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to create and maintain professional working relationships
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High standard of admin and computer skills
  • Be flexible and adaptable to individual needs
  • Be organized and have good time management skills
  • Flexibility with hours is essential and is dependent on different client’s needs.
     

Desirable Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with NDIS participant’s.
  • Previous experience working in a group home.
  • Working alongside marginalized groups
  • Youth work
  • Teaching or Counselling/Behavior Support
