School Psychologist

Permanent full time position starting on 4/09/2023

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced school psychologist who is fully bilingual in French and English to join our wellbeing service team. The successful candidate will be working with children and young persons across the school with students at all school levels (Maternelle, Primary and Secondary school levels). In this role, you will work with the wellbeing service team and teachers, parents or guardians to provide best-practice support, guidelines and interventions as well as developmentally appropriate counselling for the children and young persons who attend the school. You will play a key role in contributing towards enhancing the personal, social and educational development of students at the school including working and supporting children and young persons who have additional needs.

 

Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Organise counselling to support the ongoing needs of students.
  • Provide support for teachers in the management and assessment of student learning, behaviour and wellbeing concerns. 
  • Work with parents or guardians to provide guidance and support in understanding and managing their child’s social, emotional and learning needs. 
  • Undertake psychoeducational, social/emotional or behavioural assessments of students. 
  • Assist in the design and implementation of social/emotional learning and wellbeing programs across the school community. 
  • Encourage students to develop positive relationships with parents, guardians, teachers, peers and others who play a role in their lives.
  • Liaise with external agencies and private practitioners.
  • Provide support and guidance to students with additional needs.
  • Supervise and guide support staff who work with students with additional needs.
  • Organise student group information sessions appropriate to their school year group and maturity levels.
  • Initiate and develop wellbeing programs and contribute to existing wellbeing programs supporting students at risk.
  • Liaise and consult with teachers and staff to assist with the organisation and implementation of individual health plans.
  • Promote initiatives to prevent interalia bullying, all forms of discrimination and unacceptable behaviour of students at school.
  • Work closely with the wellbeing service team to identify and support students with additional learning needs, and students with emotional and physical disabilities.
  • Advise and consult weekly with the wellbeing commission teams for primary and secondary on student wellbeing and safety matters.
  • Apply and support student wellbeing programs that comply with both Australian and French requirements unique to our school.

 

About the ideal candidate:

  • Relevant qualifications and AHPRA registered psychologist. 
  • Practical experience working with children and young persons of all ages in a school environment would be advantageous. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and young persons of all ages individually or in groups and with their parents or guardians and teachers or staff involved in supporting students whilst they are at school
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The ability to maintain up to date, accurate and complete written records and reports.
  • The ability to conduct psychological assessments and report on results and recommendations.
  • The ability to manage the legal, ethical and organisational requirements of a counselling role within an educational setting.
  • Understanding of child protection legislation and guidelines as it applies to schools.
  • Fluent in French and English and have full working rights in Australia
