The Canopy is a non-profit organisation that provides a range of services for families and children, and general community. The Canopy also manages a neighbourhood centre and multipurpose community centres to support the community. The organisation has a strong reputation for successful partnerships and collaborations with other agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for everyone involved. 

We’re seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Family Worker to join our innovative team providing services under our Family Plus Program. The program offers a suite of professional specialised supports tailored to strengthen families and children.  Utilising the Signs of Safety framework and attachment theory the program aims to maximise the strengths within the family, while utilising community supports to create and maintain safety for children/young people. 

The Role

The primary purpose of the Family Worker is to support families through building parenting capacity in the restoration space through fostering home as a safe space for children through provision of personalised family supports delivered in the home.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

  • In consultation with Leader design and plan proposed services based on external requests;
  • Provide services and programs to clients in accordance with approved quotations;
  • Complete all reporting and evaluation requirements relevant to the provision of services and programs you have delivered;
  • Ensure services and programs are delivered in accordance with The Canopy and external stakeholder requirements;
  • Liaise with relevant government and non-government agencies as required;
  • Proactively ensure the relevant legislation is adhered to and complied within service delivery including Workplace Health and Safety, and child protection legislation;
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards;

About You

Essential Criteria:

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Science, Social Work, Children’s Services or relevant similar discipline;
  2. Demonstrated understanding and experience in working in child protection;
  3. Understanding of child development, attachment and trauma theories in relation to casework with families with complex needs;
  4. Demonstrated casework experience and skills in using a range of intervention strategies;
  5. Demonstrated experience in working with families and children with complex needs;
  6. Demonstrated training, skills and experience in delivery of evidence-based parenting programs (e.g. Circle of Security, Triple P, Parents at Teachers);
  7. Demonstrated skills and experience in mentoring families to build capacity and practical capabilities in day to day living and parenting;
  8. Experience working with Children and Families from a Strengths Based perspective;
  9. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with support services;
  10. Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to confidentiality, Child Protection and WHS legislation.
  11. Possess excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  12. Highly developed skills and experience in writing case notes.
  13. Possess effective time management skills;
  14. Demonstrated ability to work independently and to function effectively as a part of a team and the organisation.
  15. Demonstrated ability to display emotional maturity and resilience
  16. Proven capacity to maintain personal wellbeing and balance through utilisation of effective self-care practice/s.
  17. Highly competent in use of MS Suite of computer applications and use of client management databases.
  18. Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution.
  19. Possess current First Aid Certificate.
  20. Possess current Working with Children Check.
  21. Willingness to adhere to any future vaccination requirements mandated by NSW Health that The Canopy may be required to adhere to. 
  22. Current driver’s licence and access to a reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle.
  23. Willingness to work after hours and/or weekends (where required).

Desirable Criteria:

  1. Knowledge and understanding of ‘Signs of Safety Framework’.
  2. Understanding of Trauma Informed Practice Framework.

NOTE: Preferred applicants will be required to provide a National Police Criminal History Check Clearance prior to being formally offered employment.

Remuneration

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010. There is the option to increase take home pay through our Not for Profit Salary Sacrifice program.
