The Role
Purpose of Role
The Child and Youth Domestic and Family Violence Counsellor’s role is to provide counselling to children and young people aged 5-17 years who have been exposed to domestic and family violence. The role is to also address the impacts of trauma on children and young people using an integrated theoretical counselling approach, the development of safe therapeutic relationships and, in collaboration with the rest of the team, to nurture healthy relationships within the family unit.
Additionally, supporting parent/guardian-child relationship will be a key aim of the support provided in recognition that this relationship can be undermined or damaged by the abuse perpetrated by the person using violence.
Salary and Benefits
- SCHADS Level 5.1 ($47.50 p/h) | 4 days a week (30 Hours Per Week) | September 2023 – September 2026

- Salary Packaging up to $15,900 (superannuation can be paid in addition to this, subject to any ATO limit if any).

Experience and Qualifications
Essential Tertiary Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in counselling, social work, psychology, or human services (alongside relevant experience) received from a recognised university
Essential Experience
Minimum 2 years’ experience and skills in working effectively with and conducting counselling and group work for children and young people who have or are currently experiencing Domestic and Family Violence, utilising evidences based counselling practices including but not limited to play therapy, creative/expressive therapies, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Preferred Experience
Experience in planning, facilitating and evaluating group work and psycho-education
Selection Criteria (Mandatory in Application)

- At least two years of experience in the provision of counselling, including working with a range of issues including complex and trauma.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current evidence-based therapeutic interventions in individual, family and group settings.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders.
- Sound organisational, analytical and time management skills.
- Excellent written and oral skills, including demonstrated ability to write and present clearly and concisely for other professionals and clients.
