About the role

headspace in partnership with Mind aims to promote and facilitate improvements in the mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation of young people aged 12-25 years residing in the Eastern suburbs. Services in this youth friendly space are delivered across four core streams – primary health care, mental health, alcohol and other drug (AOD) and social/vocational to improve access for young people to mental health programs.

 

We are seeking a compassionate Community Mental Health Practitioner – Intake and Assessment for permanent full-time opportunity to work in the Box Hill area. This role offers a chance to cultivate strong, empathetic connections with a diverse group of young individuals, their families, and friends. You will be responsible for engaging, evaluating, referring, offering brief interventions, and overseeing care coordination for young people aged 12-25 years who either self-refer or are referred to headspace Box Hill.

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • Act as the first point of contact for enquiries providing information and advice as required while promoting the work of headspace/Mind Australia.
  • Undertake effective assessment of young people including thorough risk assessment and management, and safety planning.
  • Work with young people to enable them to live a meaningful life through supporting them through a staged approach to recovery.

 

What you’ll bring

 

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
  • Capacity to collaborate with the Lead Practitioner Intake and Assessment to develop an understanding of the community services sector
  • Ability to build strong relationships with service providers, agencies and key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated skills in working with young people and or adults and families with mental health and/or contextual challenges including family violence, poverty, homelessness, drug and alcohol, protective issues.
