Culture Care Connect Suicide Prevention Co-Ordinator

The Role
The Culture Care Connect (CCC) program will bring together key streams of suicide prevention planning, coordination, and activity across the network regions. The program will include raising awareness, early intervention, crisis management and aftercare services. Up to 31 community-controlled suicide prevention networks (CCSPN) will be established across the country. Under the program, a coordinating ACCHO/ACCO within a CCSPN will host a Network Coordinator. Their role is to establish and coordinate a CCSPN, comprising of Community Leaders, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led, whole-of-population suicide prevention services and other key stakeholders, to develop a networked suicide prevention plan and establish ongoing advocacy. They will also bring together local services, including for example, Primary Health Networks, Local Hospital Networks (or equivalent), GP representatives, police, family support services, social services, education systems, sporting clubs, and government agencies to ensure connectedness between systems, services and supports, and decrease duplication, while ensuring they are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led.
The program aims to:
- Improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health and suicide prevention outcomes.
- Build evidence and understanding through working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experts and those with lived experience.
- Support a culturally appropriate mental health system workforce.
- Provide early intervention measures that contribute to improve social and emotional wellbeing outcomes.
The position will be a 3-year contract due to the fixed term funding agreement.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- HLT40113- Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or equivalent training and/or experience.
- Mental Health qualifications and/or experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of relevant legislation and policy frameworks.
- Client focused with an ability to advocate on the client’s behalf.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in computer software including electronic medical software and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Demonstrated experience in office administration tasks.
- Willingness to undertake further study as required.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Commitment to personal and professional development including the sharing of knowledge, information and skills with work colleagues.
- Safe and appropriate culturally centred practices for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander focused services, including employment of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
- Demonstrated understanding of social, physical, economical, and cultural strengths and challenges affecting Aboriginal communities and their ability to access adequate and quality services.
- Understanding of the purpose and expectations of the Victorian Child Safe Standards and demonstrated commitment to contributing to a child safe organisation in both practice and culture.
Desirable
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
- Current Class C driver’s license.
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
