Mental Health – Psychologist / Social Worker Gladstone Region Aboriginal and Islander Community Controlled Health Service LTD

JOB DESCRIPTION

Gladstone Region Aboriginal and Islander Community Controlled Health Service Limited (“GRAICCHS”) trading as Nhulundu Health Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service operating in Gladstone and the greater Central Queensland Region delivering a comprehensive range of primary health care, aged care and community support service functions.

We have an opportunity for a mental health professional (either in the psychology or social work field) to join our Social Emotional Wellbeing Team. This role will provide culturally appropriate, comprehensive, and flexible mental health psychological/counselling services to Indigenous clients and their families; including in the areas of Alcohol & other Drugs, mental health and suicide prevention services, across the Greater Gladstone region.

These aims will be addressed through a mix of direct service provision and linking into other Nhulundu Health Service programs and services, as well as referring into/collaboration with external services as required. The Model integrates family support/family strengthening services with appropriate clinical services.

Social Work

  • Undertake comprehensive assessment of clients’ mental health and drug & alcohol issues, as well as their wider psycho-social needs and situation, and create individual treatment plans.
  • Provide targeted solutions focused counselling and support to clients through outreach and community based service delivery
  • Manage a case load of clients with varying needs and identified issues such as alcohol and drug addiction
  • Contribute to effective governance, continuous improvement and integration of mental health activities throughout all GRAICCHS programs
  • Develop the workforce of mental health peer support, coaching and support model of integrated care.

Psychology

  • Direct psychological services for designated cases; including clinical assessments, complex case formulation and intervention planning, delivery of evidence based therapeutic mental health interventions.
  • Clinical lead for case management, assessment and case conferencing practices.
  • Contribute to professional supervision of mental health workers and Family Wellbeing workers and support the development and coaching of these workers.
  • Contribute to effective governance, continuous improvement and integration of mental health activities throughout all GRAICCHS programs.

  • Bachelor qualifications in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing or Mental Health
  • Current registration with AHPRA or AASW
  • Experience in mental health assessment
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of theoretical frameworks and relevant experience in the delivery of Social Emotional Wellbeing Services to ensure optimal and up to date expertise is applied to operational activities
  • Demonstrated understanding of working with individuals, families and communities who have experienced trauma, including acute, ongoing and intergenerational
  • Strong knowledge of the social and emotional wellbeing issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the ability to work sensitively and effectively in this context
  • A passion and commitment to make a difference in people’s lives
  • Valid Drivers Licence
  • Current Blue Card, or ability to obtain prior to commencement (if not AHPRA registered)
  • First Aid Certificate and CPR certifications or willingness to update or obtain the necessary certifications
  • Physical ability to perform tasks as required
  • Satisfactory Federal Police Check
  • Proof of Vaccination must be provided
