MSS has an opportunity for a permanent part-time contract for a Domestic Violence Specialist Case Manager in our Connected Families team, working in our Taree office.

About the Role

The Specialist Domestic Violence Case Manager’s primary role will be working with and supporting the partners and ex-partners of the male participants of the MSS domestic violence intervention program called ‘Taking Responsibility’. This role will also include facilitating various support groups and providing support to other women and children experiencing domestic violence. 

This role is currently funded by the Department of Communities and Justice.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Support women and children encountering domestic and family violence
  • Take a blended focus on case management, group work, and the facilitation of domestic violence programs.
  • Apply person centred, trauma informed, TR practice and strength-based approaches to working with clients
  • Maintain accurate client records
  • Assess the risks to victims, the needs of children, and other family members
  • Provide family members with relevant services
  • Work closely with the ‘Taking Responsibility’ facilitators
  • Engage in community-related DV meetings and events

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, related social science disciplines or related tertiary qualification and/or three years minimum experience in the domestic and family violence field (DFV)
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience responding within a trauma-informed framework
  • At least two years’ experience in the provision of group work
  • Intake assessment and risk and safety assessment skills for women who have experienced family violence.
  • Strong inter-personal and collaborative skills, with a proven track record in developing effective working relationships with women and children, government and non-government agencies, external stakeholders and other staff
  • Ability to manage caseload, including clearly assigned responsibility for tasks and decisions, setting clear objectives and measures, monitoring processes and safety.
  • Highly developed administrative, organisation, and time management skills
  • Current WWCC and Criminal Record checks
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Current NSW driver’s license
