Program Description
CatholicCare NT’s Acting, Tackling Suicide (TATS) provides a service to develop, promote and deliver suicide prevention activities in Tennant Creek. The program increases community awareness and capacity to respond to suicide and other related issues in communities. The program contributes to and supports evidence-informed approaches to suicide prevention.
About the role
The position will work with community members to set priorities for strengthening social and emotional wellbeing and preventing suicide.
You will also establish and facilitate projects that have been identified by the community. This may include coordinating and facilitating events, yarning groups, and cultural trips. It may also include video, art or music projects that foster social and emotional wellbeing across the community.
This position also helps families who are healing from suicide, providing outreach visits and phone calls, practical support and information and helping them connect with other services.
What we are looking for
- Relevant certificate level qualification and two years’ experience in mental health, community services, youth work, case work or counselling.
- Proven ability to engage with young people.
- Strong communication skills including ability to run yarning groups and share knowledge for practice within a small team.
- Knowledge of culture and protocols relevant to the Tennant Creek area
- Understanding of challenges and opportunities effecting wellbeing in the Tennant Creek area
