JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Overview
As a Psychological Counsellor, you will play a vital role in supporting the mental health of our diverse client base, including LGBTIQA+ communities, people of color, and other marginalized groups. Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will provide affirmative and sensitive psychological services within the framework of our Family Services Model of Practice.

Key Responsibilities
Supportive Adult and Child Mental Health Interventions:

  • Offer sensitive and affirmative psychological services to clients under Better Access and/or TPS programs.
  • Conduct bio-psycho-social assessments, taking into account risk and protective factors associated with mental health outcomes for diverse communities.
  • Utilize clinically appropriate assessment measures to inform treatment and measure outcomes.
  • Provide evidence-based focused psychological strategies.
  • Offer appropriate referrals to internal and external support agencies to address identified bio-psycho-social needs.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of bio-psycho-social group interventions for diverse communities.
  • Participate in continuing professional development and clinical supervision.
  • Provide clinical supervision to staff and/or students as required.
  • Contribute to program targets and KPIs.
  • Adhere to professional standards and codes of ethics.

Networking and Partnerships:

  • Represent the organization positively with external health and social service providers.
  • Use community development approaches to empower LGBTIQA+ communities.
  • Develop and deliver training to community members, partners, and the broader sector.
  • Collaborate with other services to address service gaps and client needs.

Research and Evaluation:

  • Assist with the design and implementation of research and evaluation activities.
  • Participate in program reviews and contribute to project design and delivery.

Risk and Quality Assurance:

  • Identify, monitor, and manage areas of key risk.
  • Actively work to improve the quality and safety of client services.
  • Prioritize child safety and adhere to the Reportable Conduct Scheme.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Full registration as a mental health social worker or psychologist/clinical psychologist eligible to deliver services under the Better Access or Better Outcomes program.
  • Minimum two years’ experience providing psychological interventions under these programs.
  • Eligibility to apply for a Medicare Provider Number.
  • Strong knowledge of determinants of mental health, including at-risk cohorts like LGBTIQA+ and Indigenous communities.
  • High-level counselling and group facilitation skills.
  • Sound information technology and communication skills.
