Highlighting the importance of this role

The Assessment and Intervention Case Worker is responsible for providing assessment, intervention and support services to children, young people and their families.

You will have the opportunity within this varied role to:-

  • Utilise a range of assessment, crisis intervention, short term intervention skills and therapeutic approaches to provide both therapeutic and practical support services to families and individuals, based on the assessed priority of need and as outlined in the single case plan;
  • Action referrals and conduct evidence-based assessments;
  • Work with key stakeholders to develop case/intervention plans that meet the needs of the child/young person and their family, and facilitate/conduct interventions as required;
  • Provide direct in-home support services and intervention with families as required, including the provision of after-hours and ‘on call’ services on a rotational basis or as required;
  • Work sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, children, young people, families and communities to provide culturally inclusive services and achieve sustainable outcomes.

You are passionate about working with children, parents and families and aim for the absolute best outcomes for them. With an empathetic nature you are compassionate toward vulnerable individuals. You are approachable and a good problem solver who can think quickly on your feet to make sound decisions. 

To be suitable for this position, your qualifications for the role will consist of:

  • A recognised Degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences or related discipline;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of child protection and out-of-home care frameworks, including knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999;
  • Demonstrated experience in applying assessment, crisis intervention and short-term intervention skills and therapeutic approaches to working with children, young people, families and foster carers;
  • Driver’s licence;
  • Possess or has the ability to acquire a National Police Check and Working with Children (Blue Card).
