Located in Surry Hills, William Booth House offers both withdrawal management support and a 3-month residential rehabilitation program.

About the role

We are seeking values-driven and proactive Casual AOD Support Workers to welcome and support participants through the process of alcohol and other drug withdrawal and residential rehabilitation. Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide effective support to participants, ensuring a safe and structured environment is maintained in accordance with TSA guidelines, within a participant-lead recovery-based service.
  • Facilitate daily program of activities which model and foster participation & skills in; daily living, community tasks & positive routines, health & wellbeing, effective communication & boundaries, educational, recreation & leisure and managing difficult emotions.
  • Support participant self-determination, sense of safety and stability, through applied recovery oriented, person centred, strengths based and trauma informed practice skills.
  • Ensure a safe and substance free environment, ensuring risks are identified and managed including de-escalation of challenging situations.
  • Effective relationships are established with clients that encourage self-determination and participation.

This is a casual position. Willingness to work across a 24/7 roster including stand-up night shifts is required. Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Level 3.

You will have

  • Minimum of Certificate IV level qualification in a relevant discipline (AOD, Community Services, Case Management) including core AOD Units (or willing to undertake/complete during employment)
  • Available for a range of shifts including overnight shifts
  • Knowledge of and experience in working within AOD and/or mental health setting
  • Ability to actively and calmly work to solve problems and resolve conflicts, and respond effectively to challenging behaviour
  • Good understanding of risk management
  • Experience working with complex needs/co-morbidities
  • High level of interpersonal skills, with an awareness of own attitudes and biases, and how they impact on interactions
  • Good planning, organisational, problem solving and evaluation skills
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • A current NSW Drivers Licence is preferred
  • Eligibility to Work in Australia
